Letter From Mission President
Dear Elder Winegar,
Congratulations on your call to the Czech/Slovak Mission. From the time this mission was first opened in 1929 by Elder John A. Widtsoe of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles, it has been one of the great and historic missions of the Church. We are certain that you will find great satisfaction and accomplishment in your service here. We know that there are people here waiting for you to bring the good news of the restored gospel into their lives.
As you prepare for your mission, there are a few items about which you should be aware:
First, due to the transfer schedule in our mission, your release date will be another month beyond the 24-month period, making it a 25-month mission. Your release date is 8 August 2025. Please note this date as you plan for your schooling or work when you return home.
Second, it can take several months to get a visa. The process cannot start until all the paperwork provided to you by Church Travel is filled out and submitted. Follow the visa instructions and complete the documentation as soon as possible to avoid any delays in your travel to the mission. Please send us a photocopy of your passport.
We will need the Visa Renewal form to help you renew your Visa after your first year in Czechia.
Third, you should prepare the following and send them to us prior to entering the MTC:
1. Prepare a one-page letter telling us about yourself;
2. Complete the enclosed Visa Renewal Information form; and
3. Read and consider the following conference talks: “Sharing the Restored Gospel” (Elder Dallin H. Oaks Oct 2016), “The Doctrine of Christ” (Brian K. Ashton Oct 2016), “Drawing the Power of Jesus Christ into Our Lives” (President Russell M. Nelson April 2017).
From Alma 5:13 we read of the effect of the preaching of the gospel:
“...a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore, they were saved.”
As you serve here with us, you will be a witness of God our Eternal Father and his son Jesus Christ. You will help gather in the Lord’s elect. Your example will have a lasting impression on the lives of those you meet. We are so grateful for your faith and obedience to a prophet’s call to serve a mission.
With warmest regards,
Darrin M. Skousen
