Half Way Done With Provo MTC!!

I'm officially halfway done with the Provo MTC!!! I’ve been in Utah for a month and it's such a weird feeling because I really want to go out to the field already and I feel like I'm prepared, but I still have no clue how to speak Czech. I try my best to stay as positive as I can when I'm learning because I know it's not going to be easy so there's no reason to waste my time by getting frustrated. Something I've been thinking about a lot this weekend is a quote that Chad Eaton would tell me sometimes before I had a volleyball or basketball game. He would tell me to "be like a goldfish" haha. I know this sounds super dumb but he would tell me that goldfish have a terrible memory and could only remember things that happened like 3 seconds ago. Goldfish are so happy because of this so I've been thinking about this quite a bit throughout class when I'm struggling with the language. I just laugh it off and forget about my mistakes and I've noticed that it helps me a lot.

Our roommates left this week and it was actually kinda sad. When they got here I was bummed because I had to have 4 more guys living in my room but I became so close with all of them and they have been some of my closest friends at the MTC. It's been weird the past week without them but I know they are killing it out in the field already. By the time I'm done writing this email I might have 4 more Roommates in my room so wish me luck that they are cool.

Something really cool that I found out about this week is that I can actually play my name tag like a kazoo. It makes a really loud obnoxious sound so it's super fun to do.

BYU had their first football game on Saturday and there was a perfect view of the jumbotron from my dorm room hang out area. Some dude set up a really nice camera and zoomed all the way in on the jump tron and it was basically like we were watching the game on TV.

This week me and my comp had our first lesson in czech. The guy we were teaching didn't speak a single word in English and we were supposed to have a 15 minute lesson but it ended up actually being around 40 minutes long. The lesson started off great when I knocked on the door and said ahoj. He said some words back to me that I swear I haven't learned yet. I looked at him confused and walked into the room and sat on the couch. I look at him and I tried to tell him that my name was elder winegar but instead I asked, "jak jsemenuete starší winegar" which translates to "what is your name elder winegar". My comp and the guy we were teaching both looked at me like I was an idiot and started laughing and then I realized what I had done and restarted the conversation hahaha. The guy we were teaching thought it would be funny to tell us that he spilled butter in his pants pockets and it confused the crap out of me because I had no clue what he was saying. The dude definitely thought it was hilarious to mess with us but if I was him I would definitely do stupid stuff like that too. It ended good tho because I taught him how to say a prayer and invited him to read the Book of Mormon by our next lesson which is Saturday. I would say it was a solid first lesson.

Last Sunday when I was conducting Elder's quorum I walked into the room and saw that President Calderwood (the MTC president) was going to be there so I was stressing. I ended up doing a great job so it turned out fine.

Last night we had the opportunity to hear from Elder Stevenson from the quorum of the 12 apostles. He gave a Great talk and in summary he basically Said that Preach my Gospel is super important and we need to study it each and every day. He said that the book of mormon and PMG are like Mac n cheese or peanut butter and jelly in a way that they go together so well. Because of this we need to make an effort as missionaries to study PMG as much as possible.

I'll end with a quote I read this week from Becoming a consecrated missionary by Tad R. Callister. He says, "If you only change your behavior, then you will be the same person you were when you left home… but if you change your nature you will go home a whole different person". This is such a God quote because if we go on a mission and just do things because our companion or mission president tell us to do it, we aren't going to be any better then before we left. If we try our best to be obedient and change the nature of what I do, I will turn into a much better person in 2 years.

I'm trying my best to keep my emails as interesting as possible but it's pretty much the same thing every week.

Love all you guys and shoot me an email or message on Facebook!
