I LIVE IN PRAGUE
I'M IN PRAGUE! My first transfer in the Czech Republic I have been assigned to stay in Prague which is super sick! I was told that I probably wouldn't serve in Prague for a while but I guess god has a different plan for me. I will start off by saying that this mission is hard hahaha. I didn't realize how hard it would be to go up to people and try to talk to them in czech when I don't even know what I am saying. It's honestly the most terrifying thing in the world but it's gonna get better and I'll be chillin in a couple months hopefully.
I'm just gonna start off by going through what happened the past few days because it's been crazy and a lot has happened. On Thursday morning we left the MTC at about 8:30 in the morning with the Finnish, and Armenian districts which was cool because the previous 8 weeks we got really close with them. We took a bus to the train station and then hopped on a train for about 45 minutes. We were kinda cracked at loading the suitcases on the buses and trains It was pretty sick. We got off the train and hopped on to a train in Salt Lake that took us to the airport. While in the airport we got to eat real food and it was so freaking good. We all got cafe rio and downed it so fast haha. We said bye to all the other missionaries that were on a different flight and hopped on our plane to Amsterdam.
This is when the good part of my email starts. I hopped on the flight and it was weird because I was in a row by myself, but Elder rowe Burke and Olsen were in the row behind me and there were 4 seats in a row. I started talking to the couple a couple seats down from me and told them that I hoped a Czech speaker sat next to me so I could try to speak a little bit. Right after I said this, this lady from Johannesburg, South Africa, Johannesburg taps me on the shoulder and said she was sitting right next to me. I said sweet and helped her put her carry on up above. I started talking with her for about 15 minutes just getting to know her and then she asked me why I was flying to Europe. I was like freak yeah now this is where I become a missionary. I told her I was a missionary and what I was doing for the next two years and she sounded interested. I asked her about the Bible and she said she reads it and then told her about the Book of Mormon and bore my testimony about it. I told her I could give her one and she was stoked. She asked me if I was serious and I said of course! I turned around and got a book from Starší rowe and handed it to her with my name and Facebook on it and boom. She read it for about 20 minutes and It was sick. It was a great start to my mission.
We got to Amsterdam and I was culture shocked. The airport was way different then I thought and I was low key stressing because I honestly hated it. But, It was fine cause I got some Stroop waffles and Elder Rowe got orange fanta, but it was yellow so that was cool. We flew to Prague and got picked up by the AP's and mission president and drove through Prague to the church. That night we went contacting which was sick and fun at the time and then had svíčková and kofola which is like the national food and drink in czech and it was super good! We slept over at the APs apartment and woke up the next morning with a boot on our car so that was fun.
When we got to the mission home again to see where our first trader would be we met all of our trainers. There was one trainer specifically that was a native Czech and could only speak Czech. We had some funny conversations and I sat next to him at breakfast and tried my best to talk with him and others helped translate for me. He tapped me on the shoulder and waited like ten seconds and spat out the words, " Cuh your sweater is drippin, I can't even fraunt". I thought it was the funniest thing in the world. Well when we were finding out who are comps were. He was my comp hahaha. I got put in a trio with him and another elder that goes home in 6 days know. I was scared for my life because for the last 8 weeks of this transfer i was gonna be with a dude that didn't know a single word in English. After about 30 more minutes he looks at me and says, "bro I'm kidding, I actually speak fluent English." It was a solid prank not gonna lie.
These past few days have been hard, honestly a lot harder than I thought but I knew they were going to be hard. My comps are incredible and honestly the best comps I could've asked for to be my trainer. I really do believe I'm going to learn this language and they are gonna be a big reason for that.
Yesterday during fast Sunday I bore my testimony in czech and it actually went kinda good. I got out everything I wanted to say and so many people came up to me and said that my Czech was super good for only being here for a few days. The bad part is that I didn't understand a single word said for two straight hours of church haha. Hopefully that changes in a couple weeks
This has been a long email with a lot of just ranting about what happened the past couple days but this one had some better stories. I honestly can't really think too much rn haha my brain isn't really working but I hope this email makes sense.
Moroni 7: 47-48 "But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him. 48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen."
Say your prayers! It's incredible how much love and comfort you can feel from saying and pouring your heart out to heavenly father! I've already seen this work in the past couple days when I've had hard times.
I love all you guys and hope you have an amazing week!
