Week 3 In Czech
Week 3 of being in the Czech Republic and I finally feel like I’m used to missionary work. I’m starting to “get lost in the work” which is really cool to see. Me and my comp have been working really hard and we have been seeing our efforts pay off which is amazing to see. I've already seen some incredible miracles in just these past 3 or 4 days.
I’ll start with the hardest day of my mission so far, which was on Thursday. As a mission we made a goal to hand out 300 Book of Mormons in a month. This might sound super easy for many other missionaries out there, but this goal is going to be really challenging for our mission and I’m excited to see how it goes. All day Thursday we were trying to talk to people when we were traveling from place to place and just throughout our day whenever we saw people. We talked to about 40 or 50 people and we couldn’t even get to the part about us being missionaries because they would see Jesus Christ on our name tags and walk away. We said many prayers that day and I told my comp that our goal should be to stay positive no matter what happens. For me, staying positive through everything has been my biggest goal and it makes everything so much better. But, my comp was talking to a ukrainian mom as we were getting on to a metro. (she didn't speak czech so i was useless) She wanted nothing to do with us. She left and we went to dinner at a member's house for about 2 hours and that was super fun and I loved that. We got back on the metro to come home and this same Ukrainian lady was there. My comp got talking to her again, and she said she wanted a Book of Mormon which was a miracle in our minds. It went from the worst and hardest day of my mission, to being amazing just because one lady took a Book of Mormon.
Another Miracle that happened is we got a referral from some missionaries and they told us about this dude named Vlatislav that is back in the Czech Republic and needs to be taught. The dude was found a couple weeks ago and he is living a rough life. He lost his ID so he doesn’t have a home, can’t get a job, but he still finds a way to love god. We met with him for the first time on Saturday and put him on Bap date for December 2nd which is super exciting. This dude has really inspired me and has made me realize that my mission isn’t too hard after all and that I actually have a really good life here haha. I’m excited to keep teaching Vlatislav tho because he has such a great light about him that brings me so much joy just being in a lesson with him, and seeing his faith and testimony.
It's honestly crazy how many languages are here and how many lessons I've been a part of with all different languages. I've been a part of conversations in English, Czech, Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, German and now Spanish. We helped with a blessing that was only in Spanish so it was pretty cool. It's honestly crazy and it's not helping me learn the language because I never know fs if my comp is speaking Russian, Czech, Slovak or Ukrainian with the people he is talking to.
I’ll end with a couple thoughts I’ve had this week. One of them is that Heavenly Father wants missionaries that are willing to work. This sounds so simple but it’s so true. If I’m on a tram and I see somebody that I should probably talk to and I don't because I'm too scared, that is showing god that I’m not willing. I just barely learned this and realized that if I just talk to somebody nothing bad can come from it. It also shows God that he can trust me with future promptings and I’ve seen that as well. The more willing you are to talk to people, the more god will trust you, it's as simple as that.
D+C 6: 36 “ 36 aLook unto me in every bthought; cdoubt not, fear not.” This is my favorite scripture for the week because when we look to Heavenly Father through anything, we dont need to worry because he is there for us. Whether you can feel it or not, just have faith that good things will come out of it. I feel like I have so many more stories to share, but then my email would be like 5 pages long so I'll stop here.
Love you Guys! Have a Great week!
