Bag Got Stolen!!
This week had two of the hardest days of my mission so far and some of the best days. It's so weird how one day I will have the best day ever and then the next day you'll be at church and somebody steals your bag and you will probably never see it again, it's great!!
I'll start with a story that happened at church yesterday. One of our friends came for the first time and it was so cool. I sat next to him for all of sacrament and then we also went to the second hour of church together downstairs. Well when church was over, he said that he loved it and everything about it was great. He went to go grab his bag and leave from downstairs where there were a lot of people and it was pretty chaotic. He looked at us and said his bag was gone. This bag was his whole life, it had all his clothes, food and everything he needs to survive. He literally has nothing and his whole world was in that bag. We looked around the building for the next 20 minutes and couldnt find it anywhere. While we were looking, my comp asks me if anything else was missing by chance. That was a great question because I didn't check for my bag yet. I checked the spot where I left my bag inside of a bunch of winter coats and it was gone. Both of our bags got stolen. My bag had my journal in it with all of my thoughts and testimonies from the past 3 months and some other personal things like a pen that my grandpa made or some gifts that other people gave me. The journal that was in there was even a git and it was such a cool journal and all of that was gone. I said some of the longest prayers of my life and said some prayers with our friend but we still haven't found it so it's a huge bummer. It honestly ruined my week but, I know it had to have happened for a reason. I don't know that reason yet and I don't know why they would have stolen the backpack with all the clothes and things supporting our friends life but I know God has a plan for everything. It will all work out and we just need to trust in him. I don't know if I’m supposed to learn that I don't need a journal cause I have everything I've written down in my head already or what but it will all work out. It's just super unfortunate haha. Maybe say a few extra prayers that the journal will pop up somewhere this next week for me.
Other than that, this week was super great haha. It’s so weird how every day is so different on a mission and you never know what you're gonna get. On Thursday we did some service for a single mom in our ward. We did a lot of yard work for her and it was honestly so much fun and we are going back this week to help her make a raspberry garden which is super sick haha. She also fed us the most fire quesadillas I've ever had with bacon and onions and it was gas. Especially since I didn't think I would have any Mexican food for the next two years.
Friday was the best day of my mission so far! I started reading a book called “Our Search For Happiness” by Elder Ballard and I've actually finished reading the book already. It was the first book I've read besides the Book of Mormon in maybe like 5 years now. We had a bomb District Council and went to lunch all together. It was so cool cause the entire lunch we just talked about the gospel and mission stuff, my district is full of 7 amazing missionaries that have all been on missions for over a year now and then there's me haha. That one dude that can't even say a single sentence in Czech yet but i'm trying my best and that's all that matters. That same day we had about a 40 minute contacting block before we had to be back for some meetings. This contacting block ended up being 3 hours cause we were having so much more success than we are used to. The very first person we talked to was a student from Taiwan and he wanted the Book of mormon. We found out later that he blocked us on Facebook but it gave us so much hope in the moment. We said a prayer that we could find the right person to talk to and about 3 minutes later my comp said to go talk to a girl ahead of us. I felt like we should talk to a dude like 100 yards to the left of us and my comp told me to run and get him. Idk why but i didn't run, my comp is a dawg tho and he just sprinted after the dude without thinking. We ended up testifying to this dude for 40 minutes and hopefully changed his heart. We met another really cool girl but this email is really long already and I want to end with one more quick story.
At the end of the night we went with some of the sisters to a part member family. She is a single mom with 4 kids. It is interesting because she is a member and one of the daughters is a member but the other 3 kids aren't. It was hectic with a bird chirping and a dog running around the entire time but we had an amazing time and it was my favorite lesson of my mission so far. We taught the family about prayer and all made prayer rocks to put on our pillows at night. When we left the sisters said that it was the most spiritual and best lesson they have ever had with that family and they also all came to church yesterday which was a BIG deal. We will hopefully go back to their home this week again cause they are the best! It's funny cause the youngest daughter, who is about 8 years old, will run up to us and give us like a 30 second hug. It's honestly so awkward cause I don't know what to do when she hugs me but it's the cutest thing ever.
I'll end with a scripture that my comp shared with our friend when his bag got stolen. It was the perfect scripture and really stood out to me as well. D&C 122:7 “And if thou shouldst be cast into the apit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the bdeep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to chedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of dhell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee eexperience, and shall be for thy good.” I know this is true even when it doesn't seem like it in the moment. I just realized that this was a pretty negative email so I'll try to be more positive next week haha.
Hope everyone has a great week and I will be super impressed if you get through this entire email! Love you Guys!! Also shout out to my cousin Haley for a great talk, I actually got to watch the whole thing and it was exactly what I needed to hear and it was so cool to see everything she learned while being on a mission! Also I got to call my family this morning and my parents were surrounded by a bunch of elephants in Thailand haha. It was lit
